Tip for Telling
The way I tell it, it’s a Call And Response: I say a line and the audience repeats it. See me in action sharing this story here.
In a language-learning context I’ve used it very happily with teens and even university students (!) Even though it’s included here for the very young.
This is pretty much how I tell it. How many times you repeat the chorus is up to you: I do it twice at the start and a third time, very nervously, as I’m standing in the cave!
As this is a journey story, a map makes a natural storyboard.
The creased one above was made for a school outside Hanoi when I was there launching the
Singapore International Foundation Words On Wheels project.
The interpreter explained the places on the journey before I started. Then, as we went along,
I only had to point at the map
for the kids to know
where we were going next.
