Little Lit! - Singapore Writers Festival 2014

LITTLE LIT! 2014 (1/2 + 8/9 November) was a huge success, with workshops full and scores of families attending the storytelling and public space events, fully justifying NAC’s brave decision to significantly upsize this element of the Singapore Writers Festival in terms of scope and duration. I was delighted by the quality of the content provided by all the presenters, who went to considerable lengths to tailor their programmes specially for this SWF event.

I was particularly pleased with the number of young people we had contributing to Little Lit! - three Singaporean authors aged 12 -17, plus the teen tellers from Bendemeer and Kent Ridge Secondary schools, and the musicians from Couzins+ who entertained with themes from book-inspired films on the first weekend (the Hobbit theme is still my favourite!) I hope this will have inspired some more budding writers - and of course, they had the opportunity ot get excellent advice from the meet-the-author sessions and workshops conducted by Tone Ahmjell (Norway), Sally Rippin and Jacqueline Harvey (both from Australia)and Radhika Puri (Singapore).

A huge thank you to everyone, and especially to Amanda and Averyl at the NAC who were so supportive and organised, and made my first experience curating festival such a happy one.

but because they tell
us that dragons
can be beaten.”
