Play Production profile: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM performed by Centrestage, St Joseph’s Convent, 2009 staged at the school in the round

The wonderful mask for Bottom was designed and made by my good friend Randy Chew, who I’ve known since directing him in the 1984 Year of Youth Gala Concert, and who was

a core member

of Hi! Theatre.

I warmed to an auditorium where the audience shared the same space as the actors, and which made no distinction or hierarchy - everyone in the audience had a different point of view, and each point of view gave a uniquely privileged sight of any moment of the production.

- Simon McBurney, (production note,

Caucasian Chalk Circle, 1998/National Theatre UK)
