Tip for Telling
Hiroko Fujita’s book Stories To Play With gave me the idea for telling this story with a folding sheet of paper. As I tell, each ‘cut’ in the cloth results in another fold in the paper, revealing a picture of the new item of clothing. Most kids today are not familiar with a ‘waistcoat’, so having a visual - or wearing one, as I am here! - Is helpful.
.This version is by Margaret Read MacDonald from her delightful resource book, 3 Minute Tales.
I include it so you can see how different tellers create their own spin on a story and to introduce you to Margaret. She is not only a wonderful teller but she also has a knack for writing folktales in a simple and accessible manner for other tellers to tell.
Margaret has visited Singapore on several occasions and her workshops are a treat.
